HSD & Fuel Management
Accurate diesel inventory, day tank control and leak detection for backup power
An HSD automation and fuel management system that measures diesel inventory, controls day tanks and transfer pumps, detects leaks and reconciles fuel from receipt to consumption for data centres and other sites that depend on DG backup power.

What the system does
When the grid fails, a data centre runs on its DG sets, and the DG sets run on the diesel in their day tanks. If the inventory figure is wrong, a transfer pump fails to start or a leak goes unnoticed, the backup plan has a gap.
Our HSD automation system measures fuel levels in bulk and day tanks, controls the transfer pumps that keep day tanks filled, detects leaks and raises alarms. The fuel management layer then follows every litre from delivery to consumption and reconciles the figures in reports.
HSD automation is one of the systems we have delivered most often for hyperscale and colocation data centres, both as a standalone system and integrated with BMS, EPMS and centralised monitoring.
- 01
Fuel level and inventory monitoring
Continuous level measurement in bulk storage and day tanks, converted into an accurate HSD inventory that operators can trust during an outage.
- 02
Day tank management
Automatic filling of day tanks with high and low level control so each DG set has fuel available when it starts.
- 03
Transfer pump control
Control of fuel transfer pumps with run, trip and status monitoring and auto/manual operation.
- 04
Leak detection
Leak detection raises immediate alarms so fuel loss and safety risks are dealt with quickly.
- 05
Fuel receipt to consumption tracking
Records fuel deliveries, transfers and consumption, and reconciles them so differences between delivered and used fuel are visible.
- 06
Consumption analysis and reports
Fuel consumption analysis per DG set and per period, with alarm and event history and reconciliation reports.
- 07
Integration with site systems
Reports into BMS, EPMS or our centralised monitoring platform over Modbus and Ethernet, so fuel status sits alongside power and cooling.
Across the automation layers
What the solution does at each layer of your facility.
L1 · Field
Installs level transmitters, leak sensors and pump status contacts on bulk tanks, day tanks and transfer lines.
L2 · Control
Runs PLC-based control panels for transfer pumps and day tank filling logic.
L3 · Supervision
Shows tank levels, pump status and fuel alarms on SCADA screens with trends and event logging.
L4 · Enterprise
Produces fuel inventory, consumption and reconciliation reports from receipt to consumption.

Frequently asked questions
Can the HSD system work with our existing tanks and pumps?
Yes. We add level transmitters, leak sensors and control panels to existing tanks and pumps where they are in good condition. The site survey confirms what can be reused and what needs to be added.
Does it integrate with our BMS or EPMS?
Yes. The system communicates over Modbus and Ethernet and can report into an existing BMS, an EPMS or our centralised monitoring platform. On several sites we delivered HSD, BMS and EPMS together.
What is the difference between HSD automation and the fuel management system?
HSD automation controls and monitors the physical fuel system: levels, day tanks, transfer pumps and leaks. Fuel management adds the accounting layer, tracking fuel from receipt to consumption and producing reconciliation reports.
Have you delivered HSD systems for data centres before?
Yes. HSD automation and fuel management are among the systems we deliver most often, for hyperscale and colocation data centres and for enterprise and banking facilities.
